Annual Programs

Pride Events and Festival

Every year the North Carolina Pride Committee puts on North Carolina's Annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Festival. Duke supports their effort by hosting the festival and parade on East Campus and the LGBT Center creates a float for the parade. The LGBT Center's float is put on by students and has won several awards over the years. It is a great way to get involved and show support for the Duke LGBTQ community. Please check our Events page and Facebook page to learn how to get involved!

The next NC Pride Parade will be held in Fall 2013. Keep an ear out for details!

Coming Out Day @ Duke

National Coming Out Day is an internationally-observed civil awareness day for coming out and discussion about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) issues.  It is observed on October 11 every year by members of the LGBTQ communities and their supports (often referred to as "allies").

The Center for LGBT Life, student groups from across campus, and supportive offices will gather on the Bryan Center plaza on Oct. 11th from 11am-2pm to distribute T-shirts and information about coming out, being out, and the LGBTQ Community at Duke. Please check our Calendar page and Facebook page to learn how to get involved!

Details for the next Coming Out Day @ Duke will be released in the beginning of the Fall 2013 semester. Volunteers will be much appreciated!

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Transgender Day of Remembrance is a time to remember those who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice.  Transgender Day of Remembrance is held annually on November 20th. The Center for LGBT Life works to raise awareness about the hate crimes and violence gender non-conforming individuals face on a daily basis with campaigns around campus. We offer presentations of Trans 101 to groups throughout the year. Please see our Training & Resources page for more information on these trainings.

Details for the 2013 Transgender Day of Remembrance will be released in the Fall 2013 semester.

The Center for LGBT Life observes World AIDS Day on December 1 each year with the rest of the world. We offer information and resources throughout the year about living with AIDS and AIDS prevention.  This can include a referral to Student Health. We support our departments throughout campus on their efforts to celebrate World AIDS Day.

Profiles in Sexuality Research

The Program in the Study of Sexualities and the Center for LGBT Life at Duke run a series of faculty lunchtime talks with students about their work. We hope to introduce the Duke community to the different ways that LGBTQ issues -- or sexuality more generally -- are the subject of scholarly research at Duke. Please check our Events page or Facebook page for presentation dates and times.
