Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Life

Discussion Groups

The Center for Life hosts five discussion groups open to Duke Students.

"Our Lives": Up Close & Personal

There is no other venue like this for LGBTQ students and their allies on campus, where dialogue is completely open, and membership and topics discussed are confidential. The added dimension of having these talks in person allows us to interact and respond in a way that we wouldn't be able to in a blog post's comments section. Nothing LGBTQ is off-topic, and everyone is invited!

Please check our Calendar page or Facebook page for additional meeting dates and times.

Athletes United

A monthly discussion group for LGBTQ-Identified and Questioning Duke Varsity Athletes and Club Athletes ONLY. This is a confidential space for Duke athletes scheduled with the athletics calendar in mind.

Man to Man

A monthly discussion group for LGBTQ-identified men at Duke looking to have deeper conversations about the issues that impact them. Join this monthly group to discuss your experiences in a relaxing, comfortable, safe and confidential environment.

Spring 2013 Man to Man:
March 26th, 2013 7:00 PM- 8:00 PM

Spectrum Discussion Group

Are you Transgender? Are you Genderqueer? Do you consider yourself transsexual? Are you female, but do not conform to gender norms? Are you male, but do not conform to gender norms? Do you believe you are a different sex than the one you were assigned at birth? Are you not sure where you fall in the gender spectrum? Do you dislike the gender spectrum? Are you annoyed by being forced to check the M or F boxes on applications? Did you answer yes to any of these questions? Do you feel we should be asking more questions?

Women Loving Women

Are you looking for LGBTQ women's community?  Women Loving Women is a monthly meeting group for LGBTQ-identified women at Duke.  Many LGBTQ women at Duke sometimes feel as though they are the only ones with such experiences, but this could not be farther from the truth! Join us monthly for a relaxed, engaging dialogue and dinner among fellow queer women, and an evening to discover a greater LGBTQ women's community at Duke. Please check our Calendar page or Facebook page for meeting dates and times..

In order to respect the individuality and personal decisions of each member, those who attend the monthly dialogues are asked not to discuss the participants of the group beyond the evening.
