Bounds named IT director

A range of experience in the private and public sectors equip him to take on leadership role in Student Affairs Division

Tim Bounds has been promoted to director of information technology services within the Division of Student Affairs. Currently the assistant director, his new appointment begins Nov. 15.

Bounds will replace current director Kyle Johnson, Duke class of ‘91, who has accepted an information technology appointment in Student Life at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Caroline Nisbet, assistant vice president of student affairs for resource administration, said, “Tim has done an outstanding job as the assistant director in ITS for four years and is well prepared to assume these new responsibilities.”

Prior to coming to Duke, Bounds was a systems project manager at Nortel Networks for six years.  He also has held positions as a management information systems specialist at Systems Engineering Technologies and financial analyst at Simms Industries. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy as an intelligence specialist after graduating cum laude from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, majoring in
interdisciplinary programs with a concentration in American studies.  He currently is enrolled in Duke’s Master’s of Liberal Studies program.

Said Bounds, “I am looking forward to continuing the work that has made the Student Affairs ITS team a model of professionalism and customer oriented service.” I hope to enable my Student Affairs colleagues to provide improved services to Duke students by expanding the role of our IT office.”
