Campus Transportation Improvements

Sunday, January 1, 2006

Over the summer, a number of transit initiatives were instituted or upgraded to help students get around more efficiently and safely. Improvements include:

1. A new LaSalle bus loop has been added for West Durham apartment complexes between Erwin Road and Hillsborough Road. Service is planned for 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday.

2. New carpool incentives are being offered to encourage students, faculty and staff to share rides. Incentives include no-cost permits for carpools of 4 or more, with preferred parking. To find a carpool, try out Duke's new GreenRide ridematching and carpooling tool @ www.parking.duke.edu/carpool

3. Additional vans added for SafeRides Program to match service provided during last six weeks of Spring 08 semester.

4. Discount bus passes for Durham Area Transit and Triangle Transit.

5. Expansion of the popular Duke Bikes program with hybrid bikes.
