Emulating the quality time many freshmen spend together during orientation and on East Campus, the Second Year Coalition has sought to create a more unified experience for second-year students.
Launched this past fall, the group of students, faculty and administrators has continued its efforts this semester to design and support events beneficial to sophomores.
"We really feel that the level of support and resources given to first years drops too severely to the second year," said Joe Gonzalez, associate dean of residence life and co-chair of the coalition.
The Second Year Coalition already has several plans in the works, including a sophomore night at a Durham Bulls baseball game in April to make up for last fall's rainout.
The coalition will also pilot several other events, including a leadership initiative specifically for sophomores and a sophomore retreat in February, contingent upon sufficient student interest.
