Harvard retires after 21 years at I-House

Sunday, September 30, 2007

Carlisle Harvard retired this month after 21 years as Director of International House.

Her interest in international education began when she was a summer exchange student in Denmark on a program sponsored by the American Field Service. Later, when her husband did graduate work at the University of Basil in Switzerland, she experienced the challenges presented by moving to another country. She remembers how important it was to have a contact in the new country to assist in finding a place to live and settling in.

Harvard has served as Director of Duke's International House since August 1986.

Lisa Giragosian, Assistant Director in International House is serving as Interim Director until a new permanent director is appointed.
