Australia, is a country comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania and numerous smaller islands.
It is the world's sixth-largest country by total area. The neighboring countries are Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and East Timor to the north; the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu to the north-east; and New Zealand to the south-east. Australia's capital is Canberra, and its largest urban area is Sydney.
Australia is not only known for its rich biodiversity and its vibrant economy (the 13th largest in the world) but also for its Anglo-Celtic Western culture, with some indigenous influences. It is home to over 20 native communities which have reduced from about 110 native groups in the eighteenth century. The rock art of these indigenous people is the oldest and richest in the world dating to about 60000 years ago. Other attractions in Australia include the great barrier reef which is about 2500km of coral and other marine life, Blue mountains and the Sydney opera house.
