This summer has been fairly chaotic around the Bryan Center as the building underwent a massive facelift. When you get to campus this August it’s likely that you won’t even recognize the building. In fact, you’ll probably have many questions. “Where is the post office? Where is the UCAE Finance Team? Where did this futuristic chair come from? Where is all of that natural light coming from?” All good questions that I’m hoping to clear up a little with this blog post; however, you really need to stop by in person on Monday, August 26th for the grand reopening and check it all out for yourself.
Where is everything? That’s a very complex question, but here’s a brief answer: Upstairs, downstairs, and all over the BC. A longer and more detailed answer would layout the location of all of the changes, so here we go:
The Leadership Development and Social Action Team are opening a brand new Center for Leadership Development and Social Action located on the bottom floor of the Bryan Center.
The Business and Finance Team is now located on the middle floor of the Bryan Center in the large UCAE hub.
Also in the large UCAE hub is the Conference and Event Services Team, the Leadership and Administration Team, and the Student Involvement Team.
Theater Operations, Special Event and Facility Operations, Media Services, Technical Services, and the University Box Office and Visitor Information Teams are located in the same locations as last year within the BC.
Now if you’re looking for other services, I can help with that as well. DiDA and DUU are now located in the UCAE hub on the middle floor of the BC. DSG and BSA have new offices on the middle floor of the BC as well. If your student group is looking for help, Launch is now located on the bottom floor in the Center for Leadership Development and Social Action. Finally, Fraternity and Sorority Life is now located on the bottom floor next to an upgraded Center for Multicultural Affairs; while the Post Office and Duke Barbers have both moved to the bottom floor of the BC.
The BC has a few new tenants as well as we welcome the Office of the Vice President and the LGBT Center (now the Center for Gender and Sexual Diversity) to the top floor of the BC. Duke Dining has also been very busy and you’ll notice a few surprises as you stop in the BC for a meal. Another new space is the Student Organization Resource Center, or SORC, which is located within the UCAE hub on the middle floor of the BC. Last but not least, the University Bookstore has undergone massive renovations and has recently opened it’s new and improved space within the BC.
In case that wasn’t enough to entice you to stop by on Monday, August 26th, maybe the promise of give-a-ways, open house festivities, and promotional events running throughout the day will encourage you to stop by. No matter when you stop by, we look forward to seeing you and giving you a tour of the new space. We think you’re going to like it and certainly hope that you enjoy making this new space a part of your home at Duke.
