Duke Families,

Welcome to Duke! We are incredibly excited to have you be part of our Blue Devil family. Each year we are thrilled to welcome your students to the Duke community; their energy and passion inspire us. Much of our newsletter information will be shared on our social media platforms; however, we do encourage you to read each edition for additional insights, context, and official University response. Let us take a moment to acknowledge the unprecedented times before us. You and your student will have many questions about the upcoming school year. As our University leadership makes decisions impacting the Duke community, we will communicate these updates in a timely manner.

Beginning my seventeenth year at Duke, I serve as the Associate Dean of Students and Director for Parent & Family Programs. I am truly honored to serve the Duke community in this capacity. Within my position I oversee our parent and family programs, on-call management and response team, off-campus student outreach, and student veteran support among other responsibilities.

The staff in Parent & Family Programs is here to provide support and services to all undergraduate parents and families. Office goals to support our Duke families include opportunities for you to Learn, Engage, and Connect with the University. These goals are accomplished by providing comprehensive programming, communication, advocacy, and peer-to-peer outreach.

An example of the resources we offer includes the Duke Parent and Family Newsletter, which is distributed electronically each month throughout the academic year and throughout this summer to the parents/families of our entering class. We also sponsor social media platforms (Facebook for Class of 2022 and 2023 as well as Twitter), orientation events for families, podcasts, and information videos/live webinars.

This summer certainly is not and will not be typical in many ways. Together we’ll navigate the next few months and prepare your students for their journey as a Dukie. As we find out more about what the fall will look like, Parent & Family Programs will continue to share information with families.

Throughout your students’ academic career, please let us know if we can help you in any way. We are happy to answer questions, provide assistance, and offer suggestions.

Feel free to reach out to our team at familyprograms@duke.edu. Thanks and go Duke!
