“If you do not take random naps, you are not living life” - despondent pre-med student after coming from a chemistry lab.

As finals season approaches, most of us find ourselves running low on sleep. CAPS recommends 6-8 hours of sleep to maximize productivity. Although napping daily isn’t advised (sad, right?), such times call for dire measures- in this case should suffice. No one wants to take the bus back to East or Central Campus or walk down the countless steps to your room in Edens (you might as well just go to Wilson if you needed to work out) just to take a nap.  I asked a couple of students- whose napping habits are questionable- for the perfect napping spots around the Campus Center. 

This list is in no preferential order.

Earlier this week, I had a surprise visit from Lindsay Tomson, a friend who graduated from Duke last year. As we drove around Durham, she expressed her nostalgia for college. But Lindsay wasn’t lamenting the loss of parties, late nights or freedom from responsibility. She missed feeling important and the sense of community afforded to us at Duke.

In leaving college, our established reputations remain…in Durham and with those we have relationships. Everything for which we worked is done. I won’t be planning concerts for 6,000 of my peers next year. I won’t help organize KVille. And I won’t be making suggestions through these blog posts. I won’t feel consequential.

When you think of replenishment beverages after working out, what comes to mind? I tend to think of sports drinks such as Gatorade or Powerade, or those “mix it yourself” drinks such as Endurox. I was surprised to learn, though, that it is chocolate milk that provides your body exactly what it needs post-workout.

Durham offers more than an intangible visual experience. Every Duke student has heard of the farmers market, but how many of you have actually gone? Teaming with vendors, food trucks and people, it is a full event. The farmers market provides a kind of sustenance beyond produce. Its inviting atmosphere projects a sense of community – a feeling of belonging. Across the street from the pavilion sits Durham’s Central Park. Don’t think New York. Picture a much more intimate environment.
