Hi Dukies! It’s interview season for many of us as we scramble to secure a job or summer internship.

Hi sophomores! These are answers to questions we typically receive from students who are in their sophomore year. Hopefully, this will provide you with some
answers to questions you may have or provide guidance.
1. What does the Career Center do?

A huge component of the job and internship search process is the interview! As you are drafting and perfecting your application materials, interview prep can fall between the cracks and you may not think about it until you have an interview coming up.

When I was a first year, I had a fear of resumes. I did not know how to do the formatting, what experiences to include, or how to describe my experiences. I went the entire first semester of college ignoring that resumes existed because I was lost. However, one day I mustered up the courage to go to Drop-in Career Advising at the Career Center.

Without a doubt, my favorite part of being a Career Ambassador is the relationships I form with other Duke students through resume and cover letter reviews.

When I applied to be a Career Ambassador last year, I was excited to support other undergraduates in their career development.

While attending the Fall Career Fair my junior year, I noticed myself gravitating toward all the employer booths in the retail industry. I decided after leaving the fair I wanted (and needed) to learn more about the industry–not only to prepare for future interviews with these employers but also to gain a more comprehensive view of the industry.

Serving as a Career Ambassador this last year has been both a fulfilling and enriching experience. As a Career Ambassador, I had the opportunity to receive support, training, and mentorship from Career Center advisers, help my peers with resumes and cover letters, and develop my speaking, writing, and career-development skills. For me, it was one of the best parts of Duke.
