Graduate & Professional Students

Graduate and professional students and their families can take advantage of health care through Duke University, if they choose. If you cannot find what you need here, please contact the Student Health Center.

Student Health Center
Our Mission: The Duke Student Health Center’s mission is to provide a compassionate, non-judgmental environment that allows for comprehensive, first-class health care and patient education in a manner that is respectful of diversity.

Student Medical Insurance Plan
All students are required to maintain adequate medical insurance during their enrollment at Duke University. You must complete either the enrollment or waiver process within the open enrollment period. Failure to do so will result in a delay in coverage or a charge for insurance you do not need.

Acute/Urgent Care
Resources for emergency circumstances.

International Students
Health Care is very expensive in the USA and quite different from other countries. In many countries the government pays for health care for its citizens while in the United States individuals are responsible for these costs themselves.

Dependent Care Options
Spouses and children of students can sign up for the family health insurance plan. However student spouses and children cannot go to the Student Health Center for their primary care.

North Carolina state law requires that all students entering college present a certificate of immunization which documents that the student has received the immunizations required by law. Students will be WITHDRAWN FROM THE UNIVERSITY 30 days after classes begin if immunization requirements have not been met.
