Just a short five-minute drive from the Blue Zone, The Avana, is located at 2709 Western Blvd., near the intersection of 15/501 and Cornwallis.

Avana features luxury 1, 2, and 3 bedroom garden-style apartments, with the majority of apartments being 2 bedroom. Students assigned to Avanna can review their floor plan at: https://avana.ticonproperties.com/floorplans.aspx

The apartments come fully furnished.  We encourage students to defer from bringing in their own furniture.  Beds will be full sized in private bedrooms, twin sized in shared bedrooms.

Transportation between Avana Apartments and West Campus (Science Drive bus stop) will run Monday through Friday, 8:00am-7:00pm, during the academic year. The schedule

The Blue Light is located at 1605 Erwin Road (map).

Both two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments will be available. Number of occupants for these apartments is still being finalized.

The apartments come fully furnished.  We encourage students to defer from bringing in their own furniture.  Beds will be full sized in private bedrooms, twin sized in shared bedrooms.

There will be campus bus service to/from The Blue Light.

The Blue Light will have a security on site, and cameras are in place at all entrances and public areas.

 

Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club (WDIGC)

Bed sizes will range from full, queen, and king (size will depend on type of room). Rooms will be furnished will the following items:

  • bedside table and lamp

  • one chair
  • one dresser or one dresser/wardrobe combination
  • floor lamp

  • Keurig coffee machine

Students do not need to bring their own bed linens, pillows, or blankets, as these will be provided by WDIGC. However, bedspreads/comforters will not be provided.

Students will use regular hotel room access key cards for room entry.

Due to space and fire safety restrictions, students are asked not to bring the following items:

  • Microwaves not allowed
  • Refrigerators not allowed
  • Additional furniture not allowed
  • Candles/Incense burners not allowed

Also, the WDIGC room wall décor will remain in place. Students are asked not to remove this décor or attempt to hang or affix any other items on the walls. Additionally, nothing can be hung or placed in the hallway outside of rooms (welcome mat, dry erase board, athletic equipment in the hallway, rain boots, umbrellas, etc.)

Students are still expected to follow residence life policies while living at WDIGC. Students can review the residence hall policies on the HRL website.

Yes. WDIGC will provide regular hotel guest services in 88 rooms. These hotel guest rooms are in a distinct wing of the building and separated from student rooms. Guest elevators designated for these 88 rooms are off limits to students, except in emergency conditions.

While one TV will be provided per room, cable TV will not be provided. Students should use their own streaming services and their own streaming devices.

Housing and Residence Life and WDIGC are working to provide appropriate internet services.

WDIGC has security officers in place. These officers perform security checks throughout the building including guest room floors. Several RAs will also be assigned to the WDIGC and will work in concert with the security officers.

The WDIGC staff will provide daily trash and towel service / weekly bed linen and bathroom cleaning services. Routine health and safety inspections will be made as part of the daily trash and towel service. Additional trash receptacles will be provided in each hallway for larger items.

WDIGC is creating a text message service to allow students to easily request maintenance service. 

Duke HRL provides each student with a wash-dry-fold laundry service each week (not for team-issued gear) through a local company named Laundrymen. Each resident will be furnished with a long-lasting, eco-friendly custom wash-dry-fold laundry tote and an eco-friendly dry-cleaning tote with your name on the totes. There is no need to pre-sort your laundry; Laundrymen will separate your whites, lights, and darks for you. Residents drop-off their bag in the Robert Trent Jones Room on the Golf Level (below the Golf Shop) of the Washington Duke Inn and pick-up their clean laundry in the same room once a week. The room will be accessible throughout the day but locked from 10 pm-7 am. Laundrymen also provides a Dry-Cleaning service, but that would be at the resident's own expense.

  • 3 mile walking and running trail through Duke Forest
  • Access to the Duke University Golf Club

Because of WDIGC’s unique nature, there are no common kitchen areas. The Fairview Dining Room and Bull Durham Bar may not be used for study spaces. There will be designated study and social spaces for students. The pool and fitness center are not available for student use.

Yes. Students 21 or older may possess and consume alcohol within their own room. Alcohol is not permitted in hallways, elevators, lounge areas, or on the grounds of the hotel. Alcohol purchased by students for private consumption is not permitted within any of the WDIGC restaurants, bars, or patios.

HRL, WDIGC, and Parking and Transportation Services are working to provide parking spaces for students.

I have told students that WA Duke does not have the capacity to accept student mail, so it is strongly recommended for them to utilize a campus mailbox that the Bryan Center.

Transportation to and from the Washington Duke Inn is not provided regularly. Many students utilize their own vehicles for transportation or walk across the street from the hotel to the nearest bus stop location on Bassett Drive. 

Yes, all Washington Duke Inn residents can utilize food points at these three restaurants inside the hotel: the Fairview, Nineteen, and Vista Restaurant. 

Room service and the Bull Durham Bar are off-limits to all Duke students.
