2020-2021 Academic Year Information Session Documents
Step 1: Determine which housing option is right for you
You can attend Information Sessions to assist you in your decision and learn more about the overall Duke Houses Process. You can also review detailed information regarding each housing option in the links below. If you have a unique circumstance (Study Away, Marine Lab, etc.), please review our policies further.
Step 2: Submit the Duke Houses Application
When: It will open on February 5th, 2020 and close at 11:59pm EST on February 7th, 2020. If you fail to complete the application during this time, you will have one more opportunity to submit it during the makeup window from February 13th until 12pm EST on February 14th.
Where: Housing Portal
What: Students will indicate their housing option (independent, selective living groups, or living learning communities) and indicate their house or group preferences. Students will be required to rank their house assignment preferences. Therefore, begin research now regarding which houses will best meet your needs.
Step 3: House Assignments and Lottery Numbers
This step is only applicable to students moving forward in the Independent Houses and Living Learning Communities options. This information will be emailed to your Duke email account on March 18th, 2020. You will receive your house assignment and your lottery number. The lottery number will dictate the order in which you are able to select your room.
If you will be living in section with a selective living group, your housing liaison will work with us regarding your assignment. You can skip to step 5.
Step 4: Room Selection
If participating in Right of Return, you will select your room online. You will be emailed a specific time in which you can select your room during the week of March 2nd, 2020.
Step 5: Confirm Assignment and Meal Plan
In April, you will receive an email to confirm your assignment and meal plan online via the Housing Portal. All students are required to confirm their assignments or they can be cancelled.
Optional Step 6: Reassignment Process
If you could not participate in the Duke Houses Process or want to change your assignment for the 2020-2021 academic year, you will need to participate in the Reassignment Process during the summer of 2020. Information regarding this process will be available beginning May 18th, 2020.
