Friday, April 12, 2019

Open House
4:00 – 5:30pm
Drop by the Freeman Center for Jewish Life anytime between 4:00 – 5:30pm to tour the facility, meet students and staff, enjoy light refreshments and see what’s new with Jewish campus engagement. No RSVP required. 

Shabbat: Song Session & Services
5:30 – 7:00pm
Join Jewish Life at Duke staff, students, and Rabbi Elana Friedman for our weekly campus Shabbat observance. Come at 5:30pm for our Shabbat Song Session, and stay for our pluralistic Shabbat services at 6:00pm. Alumni are welcome for part or for all of the evening’s events. No RSVP required for song session or service.

Shabbat Dinner
7:00 – 8:15pm
Celebrate Shabbat with current students and a delicious kosher dinner at Henry's Place, the kosher dining hall at the Freeman Center. Services precede dinner at 6:00pm. Come for services or dinner – or both! Please click here to RSVP for dinner.

Coalition for Preserving Memory's 24-Hour Name Reading Ceremony – Able Quad (in front of Duke Chapel)                                              
1:00 – 1:40pm
The Coalition for Preserving Memory, a JLD student organization dedicated to memorializing 20th and 21st century genocides, invites you to take part in their largest event of the year, a 24-Hour Name Reading Ceremony (video), a collective movement to bring justice and dignity to the memory of genocide victims. Over the course of 24 hours, approximately 250 students, faculty, and staff will stand together at in front of Duke Chapel against genocide. You are invited to take part of this ceremony by reading names aloud for all of Duke’s campus to hear, raising your voice in honor of those who lost theirs. We have dedicated 1:00pm, 1:10pm, 1:20pm, and 1:30pm for Jewish Life at Duke Alumni to read names. Sign up for an alumni slot here, or email with your name, phone number, and requested time.
