Learn More About Project Waves

Do you love the beach? Do you enjoy making life-long friendships? Do you want to spend a week with some of the coolest people in the world? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you should apply for Project Waves!

Project Waves is an incredible week-long opportunity inviting first-year students to soak up the sun and enjoy the last week of summer on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The trip is led by current Duke students who participated in the program and wish to foster an unbelievable experience for first years, helping ease them into the transition of life at Duke.

Over the course of your week on Project Waves, you will spend half your time falling in love with all that the Duke Marine Lab has to offer. From seeing the wildlife of North Carolina’s coast to relaxing on the dock, you will get to have a blast at one of Duke’s satellite campuses. For the second half of the week, you will spend time in one of North Carolina’s treasures, Hammock Beach State Park in the Outer Banks. You and your crewmates will go island-hopping in kayaks along the coast of North Carolina, camping on a different beach each night.

If you’re like us, this will be your favorite week of the year. Even if you are not a beach person, you will still have an amazing experience and receive a close-knit Project Waves family entering college! This community will last throughout your entire time at Duke, and there is no greater way to start off your four years.

Financial Aid Available!

Students who receive need-based financial aid from Duke may be eligible for assistance to attend Project Waves. Please make note of this request on the online registration form when you apply. If you are accepted into Project Waves, you will be notified of the status of your request for financial assistance in July. While we will make every effort to accommodate each request, please understand that we have limited funds available for this purpose.  The program will also help to provide any equipment that you may need for the program.

We would love to see you on the beach this August so please make the best decision of your Duke career and apply to Project Waves!
