Welcome to Hollows Quad!

Hollows Quad is a 486-bed residence hall made up of two connected buildings and offers suite-style living for upperclass students on Duke’s West Campus. Each suite features an en suite kitchenette, common area, one to two full bathrooms (depending on suite size), and single room options. Suites range in size from two to five students.

Ground was broken for Hollows Quad on March 15, 2017, and the building was timed to be opened in August 2019. Hollows Quad brings together the newest, most-up-to-date features in a Duke residence hall and provides more living choices for student housing on West Campus.

Hollows Quad includes a number of features consistent with other West Campus quads, as well as some amenities unique to Hollows Quad:

  • Keyless entry to the building, suites and individual rooms.
  • Additional commons, kitchens, and study areas:
    • Each floor has a full kitchen designated for the residents of that floor's use.
      • Hollows A 6th floors shares a common room with Hollows A 5th floor
      • Hollows B 5th floor shares a common room with Hollows B 4th floor.
    • Each floor also has designated study spaces with dry erase boards provided.
  • Laundry is available in Building A on the first floor and in Building B on the basement level.
  • There are two elevators in each building.
  • E-print stations are available on the first floor of each building.
  • All gender, single use bathrooms are on the first floor of each building, near the e-print.
  • Hollows A Lobby features a large screen and projector available for resident use.
  • Hollows Quad also features a number of outdoor spaces - a courtyard outside of Hollows A, and a courtyard outside of Hollows B; a large underpass in between both buildings, and a huge front lawn.
  • Hollows Quad is only a 5 minute walk to Brodhead Center or the library. It is the closest building the Blue Zone parking lot, and also a quick walk to Wilson Rec.

  • Just like other quads on West Campus, Hollows Quad will remain open during Thanksgiving and Spring Breaks, and will close for Winter Break.
  • In the instance of any room change, students must go through the reassignment process. This is particularly important for Hollows Quad due to your access being tied to your DukeCard.
  • Suites are not gender specific and assigned students can determine mixed gender or gender-neutral. Students will not be assigned to an opposite gender suite unless specifically requested by the student and residents of the suite.
  • Residents will be sharing individual space within a shared space, so it is important for residents to determine how they'd like to manage those spaces together.
  • Resident Assistants are assigned to live in a suite with other residents.
  • All suites are not identical. You can locate your suite and room via the Hollows Quad floor plans.
  • Hollows Quad has one Residence Coordinator (RC), two Graduate Residents (GRs), and 15 Resident Assistants (RAs).
  • Your RA is your first point of contact for a variety of things ranging from peer advising, submitting maintenance requests, assisting with roommate conflicts and assisting in times of crisis.
  • RAs in Hollows Quad may live in a suite-access room or a separate hallway-access room. An RA is on-call every night throughout the academic year and can be contacted at: (919) 812 - 8176.
  • Signs in the hallway will identify where the RAs rooms and suites are located.
  • You may have to interact with other students before speaking with the RA if the RA shares a suite.
  • Hollows Quad RC, Briana Enty, may be contacted in her office (HLA1003A) or via email (briana.enty@duke.edu).

Hollows Quad Resident Assistant on-call phone number is (919) 812 - 8176. Resident Assistants are on-call seven days a week during these hours:
